Barbara Jean Whitton Mosby England, 95, passed away on Dec. 27, 2022, in Raymore.
She was born May 30, 1927, in Albany, Mo., to Gilbert and Louvina Whitton. Their family moved to Kansas City in 1945 where Jean worked in the Kansas City Stock Yards.
In November 1946, she married LeRoy Mosby and the next year LeRoy joined the U.S. Army. This began their adventure around the world, living in six different states and spending a wonderful seven years stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany. Upon LeRoy’s retirement in 1967, the family moved to Belton. For 16 years, Jean was the general manager of Bea’s Sample Shop, a women’s clothing boutique in Belton.
Jean was a member of the Belton Chapter of the Eastern Star and received her 50-year pin. She was also a member of the Belton Christian Church as well as a member of the local chapter of the Air Force Sergeant’s Association. Jean enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques and watching her soap operas.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Rayfield and husband Tom; son, Lee Mosby and wife Patti of Cleveland, Ohio. Jean had three grandchildren, Debbie Rayfield Hyman, of Belton; Chris Mosby and wife Hayley of Cleveland, Ohio, and Sydney Mosby also of Cleveland, Ohio. She had one-great grandchild, Ashleigh Hyman Locke and husband Jimmy of Grain Valley and another great-grandchild expected in February to Chris and Hayley.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Marshall and Mitchell Whitton; one sister, Helen Elliott; and several nieces and nephews. The family requests no flowers, please. In remembrance of Jean’s life, the family asks that charitable donations be made to the Bryant Cemetery Association, 408 Sandra Lane, Belton, MO 64012. A graveside service was held at the Bryant Cemetery in Belton.
