J.C. Grossman

J.C. Grossman, 88, of Raymore, was born in Bosworth, Mo., on May 23, 1935, to Hollis and Kathryn (Behrens) Grossman. He passed away suddenly at Foxwood Springs in Raymore, on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, surrounded by loving friends and family.

J.C. graduated from Keytesville High School in north central Missouri in 1953. He served proudly in the Army from Feb 1957-Jan 1960 and always loved wearing his “You Bet I’m a Vet” hat.


He married Sue “Elaine” West on Nov. 16, 1957, in Buckner.


He worked for Conoco Oil as a computer programmer until they moved to Oklahoma. He became Project Manager/Construction Superintendent for Foxwood Springs before starting the J.C. Grossman Home Remodeling Company. He enjoyed buying and maintaining rental houses as a sideline.


J.C. was an active member of Broadview Christian Church and then Longview Chapel Christian Church for his whole adult life in Kansas City. He was a Deacon, Elder, Elder Emeritus, on and chaired multiple committees, and the Board Chair. He also went on several youth mission trips to repair tornado damage and trained the youth in using carpentry tools.

He enjoyed gardening, walking, watching Royals and Chiefs games, and talking with friends, family and strangers.


He is survived by his loving spouse of 66 years, Elaine in Foxwood Springs; his children, Lynda Grossman and husband, Mike Gonzales of Summerville, SC, and Tim Grossman and girlfriend Dana Perkins of Raymore; his grandchildren, Joseph (JP) Gonzales of Charleston, SC; Alexandria Grossman of Lawrence, Kan.; Chandler Gonzales of Seattle, Wash.; Jason Gonzales and wife, Sadie of New York City, and Daniella Obourn and husband, Bob of Tacoma, Wash.; and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews around the country.


He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings – Jane Huels, Jerry Grossman, Jennet Jones and Jon Grossman.


Visitation will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, at Longview Chapel Christian Church in Lee’s Summit followed by the Funeral Service at 1 p.m. Pastor Donna Rose-Heim will officiate. Burial will be at Buckner Hills Cemetery with a family graveside service.
