Jewell Louise Cox

Jewell Louise “Lou” Cox, age 76, of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 10, 2023.

Services were held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore. Lou was laid to rest in Peculiar Cemetery in Peculiar, Missouri.


Lou was born in Crane, Texas on June 26, 1947, to James Everett Smith, Jr. and Johnnie Louise (Mulvey) Nichols. Lou graduated high school and worked various jobs over the years including food service and chicken farming. In life she held a strong Christian faith and was very involved in her church, Lighthouse Full Gospel. Lou loved flowers, vacationing in Branson, listening to Elvis, and especially spending time with her family.


Lou was preceded in death by her father, James Everett Smith, Jr.; grandparents, and niece, Michelle Ritzinger.


She is survived by her loving mother, Johnnie Louise Nichols; children, Leisa Stringer, John Bonds, Kimberly Weedin (Russell), James Bonds, and Donielle Lester (Daniel); two sisters, Kathy Dean (Leo) and Eileen Jones (Gil); grandchildren, Stephen and Kristin Hercules, Austin Weedin, Danilyn Cogbill, Mykayla Penn, Cole Clausing, Xander, Ella and Luke Lester; great grandchildren Lily, Arya, Alayah, Elizabeth, Keegan, Kinzley, Noah, Presley and Remmington; nieces Angela, Rebecca and Melissa; and great nieces & nephew Hannah, Brayden and Elliana.
