Letter to the Editor

Hi Belton!

I hope everyone has been having an enjoyable summer. My family and I have stayed and I thought I’d share a few stories that stood out.

Earlier in the summer, after school let out, my family and I were at a local Belton business where another local family, with a young preschool aged child had a cardboard box that was causing quite a bit of interest. Inside the box? A turtle! (With all the expected living necessities) The child had rescued the turtle earlier that day and was enjoying the turtle’s company for a little while before releasing it back into the wild.

More recently, I was invited by a different local family to Main Street to enjoy some homemade blackberry pie made with blackberries grown in their backyard. To top it all off, it was served a la mode with homemade ice cream.

What do these stories have in common? It’s moments like these that remind me to reflect on what makes Belton great; that small town feel with all the convenience of big city amenities. Whether it’s enjoying fresh picked produce from your garden, watching the wildlife walk across your yard, or simply enjoying some time to enjoy a meal at some of Belton’s locally owned businesses, I hope you find as much enjoyment in our community as I do. There are also a lot of new exciting businesses on Main Street and elsewhere across the city (did someone say endless breadsticks?). And it’s been great to watch our hometown heroes, firefighters and police, out gathering school supplies to give back to those in need.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer and a great start to the new school year. Don’t forget to stay up to date with city happenings by subscribing to the Belton newsletter. More information will be provided by contacting marketing@belton.org, visiting Belton.org, or reaching out to me.
