Margaret Vivian Poe

“I can see the light. It’s beautiful…” she spoke on her last earthly day. Margaret “Peggy” Vivian Evans Poe moved toward the light peacefully Saturday evening October, 21, 2023, after a brief illness. The long-standing Raymore resident passed away at home surrounded by her loving family.

Margaret Vivian Poe

Peggy was born at home in Kansas City, Missouri, on August 23, 1934, to Robert Alden Evans and Dorothy Elizabeth (Harry) Evans. After graduating from Belton High School and attending junior college, she worked as a dental assistant until meeting the love of her life Wesley Poe. They were married for 42 years until his passing in 2006. The always vibrant Peggy cherished her family, friends, faith, and community. Over the years she was Raymore’s city collector, city councilwoman, Caldwell Banker real estate agent, and Belton Research Hospital Board member. Her friends were precious, and she’d share fellowship with her “Tons of Fun Friends,” “Red Hat Society” and her dear book club friends.

For over 20 years Peggy was an avid witness for her beloved Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Her church family was especially close to her heart. She was honored to be a member of the Alter Guild, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Prayer Chain Partner, Stephen Ministry and Beautiful Savior Nursing Home Board.

Peggy’s love for her family was endless and she wrapped each family member in love. No words can express how much Peggy was adored by all her family. She was beautiful, vivacious, warm, loving, spunky and so very caring. Our rock will be greatly missed but our grateful memories are boundless.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Allen Poe; parents, Robert and Dorothy Evans; son, Lester Allen Poe; brother, Calvin David Evans; grandson, Trenton Evans Griffin and only two months earlier by her dear “Always Meant To Be” friend, Carol Behm.

Cherishing her memory are her children; Ann Murdock (Fred) and Matthew Evans Poe (Beatrice); sisters, Priscilla Schiller (Don) and Elizabeth Evans; and grandchildren, Curtis Daniel Blythe, Jennifer Blythe, Nicholas Allen Poe, Emily Poe-Gomez, Erin Taylor, and Kellie Griffin. In addition to the many great grandchildren, great great grandchild, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews that also cherish her memory.

Memorial donations may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church as addressed above.

Services will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 310 Johnston Pkwy. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. A private family inurnment will be held later that afternoon.
