Norma Jean Nelson, 94, passed away Dec. 13, 2024. Visitation will be Friday, December 20, from 3-5 p.m. at South Haven Baptist Church, Belton. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 21 at 10 a.m. at the church.
Norma was born in Missouri and had lived in this area all of her life. She worked as a manager for Crossgate Dry Cleaners for over 20 years, retiring in 1995. She was very active in her church, volunteering for Vacation Bible School, Bible study, Love Loud and Young At Heart.
Norma also served as “Mrs. Claus” during the holidays for both the city of Belton and the Smokey Hill Railroad, reading to children at several elementary schools and served on the boards of the Belton Historical Society and Smokey Hill Railroad. She was beloved “Grandma Norma” to the entire community, even having a tree dedicated to her in the Belton Memorial Park.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a daughter. Survivors include two sons, Kevin (Kathy) and Kelly (Tammie); 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Norma was a loving, caring mom who provided for her family and made sure they had everything they needed. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her!
