We regret to announce the passing of Riley Junior Bales, aged 77, who passed away peacefully on August 6, 2023 in Harrisonville. A Celebration of Life will be held at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 1 to 3 p.m., with a memorial and military honors beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Junior was born on February 4, 1946, in Lee’s Summit, to Riley Howard and Grace Arlene Bales. After graduating from Lee’s Summit High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy in December of 1965, where he served as a radar operator and technician on the USS Wainwright CG-28. After serving his country, Junior worked alongside his father and brother, spending his career as a well-known and experienced professional painter. He was a respected member of his profession and known for his attention to detail in all areas related to painting and staining.
Junior was a devoted Christian who was actively involved in his church. He also enjoyed fishing, football, and classic cars. His sons always enjoyed hearing about his 1965 Artesian Turquoise Chevelle Super Sport.
Junior is survived by his three sons: James Riley, Michael Dustin (Carrie), and Joseph Nathan (Kim); as well as, thirteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Riley Junior Bales will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through his family, friends, and colleagues.
