Yvonne Salmon, of Belton, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020. She was 69. Yvonne was born in Topeka, Kan., raised mostly in Kansas City. She had been a resident of Belton, since 1977.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her father William Banister, who passed while she was a youngster, her mother Betty Smith, and younger brother, Billy E. Banister.
Yvonne is survived by her husband of 47 years, David; and son, Douglas. Other surviving family include two older brothers, John Dennis (Ellen) and William G. Dennis (Peggy).
Yvonne had a master’s degree in education and taught at Gladden Elementary in Belton for 25 years. Several plaques and certificates hang on the walls of her house in recognition. She subsequently worked at North American Savings Bank and for Blue Ridge Bank and Trust.
Yvonne was an active member of the Lord of Love Lutheran Church, serving her Lord in many ways, including singing in the choir, the Wednesday Meal and several positions in the congregation and its women’s group. She was long time member of Beta Sigma Phi, and had held offices in the sorority. Yvonne had remained active in a local group of retired teachers. A few book clubs, a bible study group and an occasional game of golf rounded out her busy weeks.
Yvonne was buried Wednesday, Nov. 25, in the Belton Cemetery. An opportunity for her many friends and family to remember her will be delayed until the spreading of the COVID-19 has subsided.
In lieu of flowers, The family requests that Memorial contributions in Yvonne’s name be made to “The Assistance Fund”.
