Belton Railroad Days Returns Saturday with Train Rides, Family Activities and Community Fun

Trains, history, music and family-friendly activities will come together this weekend as Belton Railroad Days returns to the Belton Missouri Historical Railroad.

The community event will take place Saturday, September 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Belton Missouri Historical Railroad, 502 E. Walnut Street in Belton. Admission to the event and activities is free, with daytime train rides available for $5.

“Belton Railroad Days is really about bringing our community together and giving families a fun and affordable way to experience the railroad,” said Mark Sharp, event organizer and member of the Belton Missouri Historical Railroad Board of Directors. “There will be something happening throughout the day, whether you want to ride the train, learn about railroad history, listen to live music or bring the kids out for all of the activities.”

$5 Unlimited Daytime Train Rides

One of the highlights of Railroad Days will be train rides aboard the Belton Missouri Historical Railroad. Short, approximately three-mile rides will depart every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A $5 daytime train ride ticket provides unlimited daytime rides, allowing visitors to ride multiple times throughout the event. Daytime tickets will be available on a walk-up basis only, with each trip accommodating up to 100 passengers.

“Being able to offer unlimited daytime train rides for just $5 is something we’re especially excited about,” Sharp said. “We want families to be able to spend the day with us without worrying about the cost adding up every time their kids want to get back on the train.”

Additional evening train excursions will be offered Friday, September 18, at 6, 7 and 8 p.m., as well as Saturday, September 19, at 4, 5 and 6 p.m. Reservations and separate tickets are required for the evening excursions.

Free Activities for the Entire Family

Railroad Days will feature activities throughout the railroad grounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., including a Touch-A-Truck, locomotive and caboose tours, bounce house and corn play bins, railroad obstacle course, free kids build workshop by Home Depot, birthday card creation station, model train displays, face painting, wooden train play tables, derby track racing, children’s games and activities, orphan train history and petting goats.

The Touch-A-Truck will include vehicles and equipment from SkyMark, Spire, J’s Southland Tow, the Belton Fire Department, Belton Public Works and Cass County Library.

Visitors can also enjoy model train displays presented by KC T-Nuts and the Kansas and Missouri Model Railroaders.

Live music is scheduled throughout the day, with Nick Mitchell performing from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Corbin Todd performing at 2 p.m.

At 11 a.m., the railroad will celebrate the locomotive’s 70th birthday. The Belton Historical Society will also present a program on the history of Orphan Trains at 1 p.m. at the museum.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase from Antojitos Garcia, To The Xxtreme, Belton’s Fraternal Order of Eagles and Granny’s Bakery.

“This event is made possible by so many organizations, businesses and volunteers who are willing to give their time and help create a great experience for our community,” Sharp said. “Railroad Days gives people a chance to enjoy a piece of Belton’s railroad history while also seeing the community come together. We hope people will spend the day with us.”
