FROM THE BELTON SCHOOL DISTRICT:
The Belton School District is part of this closure announcement. More Pirate-specific information will be sent to staff and families after a special Board of Education meeting on Wednesday afternoon. Thank you!
Schools throughout the Kansas City, Missouri area responded to the announcement by Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas and the latest developments in the COVID-19 crisis by announcing that they will close through Friday, April 3.
Kenny Southwick, executive director of the Cooperating School Districts of Greater Kansas City, announced that many districts across the region collaborated on this cancelation.“Our superintendents appreciated the Mayor’s leadership and agreed with him that this was a difficult decision in light of the problems this will create for children and families in our community, but the districts acted together in order to try to save lives,” Southwick said.
As recommended by the Missouri State High School Activities Association and to protect the safety of the entire community, all school activities, including athletics and extracurricular practices and competitions, will be canceled during this time. The districts will continue to collaborate with local public health and government officials to determine whether or not to extend the cancelation.
Individual districts will communicate with their communities about what this will look like in each school district.
