Filing: Raymore residence to be sold on courthouse steps June 5

HARRISONVILLE – Cass County Recorder of Deeds Mike Medsker was notified in a court filing last week that his residence at 1106 Creekside Court in Raymore will be sold on the courthouse steps at 9 a.m. Friday, June 5, for failure to satisfy a promissory note.
The “notice of successor trustee’s sale” published in this week’s North Cass Herald by the law firm of McDowell Rice Smith and Buchanan of Kansas City lists an unpaid Country Club Bank loan as the reason for the action.
Medsker, a Republican first elected as Recorder of Deeds in 2010, also operates a Farmers’ Insurance agency in Raymore. That agency is listed as a joint defendant in a breach of contract and breach of guaranty action filed by the bank in Cass County Circuit Court on Friday.
In that suit, the bank lists a $386,907.78 business loan issued on Jan. 27, 2025, and personally guaranteed by Medsker, with a maturity and due-in-full date of July 27, 2025. According to the suit, that payment was not made, and the total amount due as of May 5 of this year is $432,117.70. Interest continues to accrue on the balance to the tune of $112.85 per day, according to the suit.
Medsker sent an email reply on Tuesday to a request for comment on the lawsuit and an update on his current residency, since he is required to be a Cass County resident in order to hold elective office.
“This dispute has nothing to do with my role as Recorder of Deeds. I intend to continue to fulfill my duties as Recorder. My address has not and will not change while I am in office. God is good and I will glorify Him through all that happens!”
He did not reply to a followup asking if that meant he planned to resolve the claim by June 5.
The Recorder of Deeds office is the repository for all Cass County land transactions. The Recorder’s duties include reviewing, processing, recording and delivering back to the submitter all transfers of property and related documents in a timely manner.
Medsker is running for re-election in this November’s election against challenger Art Ruiz of Belton, a Democrat.
