Former State Sen. Ed Emery, a candidate for the U.S. House seat being vacated by Vicky Hartzler, collapsed during an address to the Randolph County Republican Women in Moberly Tuesday night and remains in intensive care in Columbia’s University Hospital, according to a colleague.
Emery had stepped in to speak in place of State Rep. Edwin Lewis (R-Moberly), who was in St. Louis for the birth of a grandchild. Lewis reported on Facebook Wednesday night that Emery remained in the ICU and that he was “praying he will recover.”
According to Columbia television station KRCG reported Tuesday night that Emery was speaking “when he suddenly collapsed at about 8:15 p.m.” KCRG reported that the 71-year-old Emery was rushed to the Columbia hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
