Mayor's Christmas Tree Lighting and Main Street Light Parade set for Nov. 23

Mark your calendar for Saturday, Nov. 23, and join us on Main Street for the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting and Light Parade, a benefit for the Belton Welfare Association’s Operation Santa.

Beginning at 5 p.m. with free hot dogs and bottled water while they last, the light parade will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Directly after the parade, Mayor Norman K. Larkey Sr. will present the Welfare Association with a check from sponsors and will light the tree at the corner of Main St. and Chestnut St.

There won’t be a raffle this year, but after the lighting, kids are encouraged to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus and receive a sweet treat!

Each year the Mayor’s Christmas Tree lighting ceremony partners with the Belton Welfare Association. The Belton Welfare Association assists area residents throughout year with paying utility bills, family emergencies, and the back-to-school backpack program. One of their biggest events is Operation Santa! Operation Santa provides families with holiday gifts for children, groceries for a holiday meal, and warm gloves/scarves/hats. Operation Santa depends on community donations of non-perishable food and new unwrapped toys!

Donation bins will be on-site for non-perishable, unexpired food. Especially needed are canned fruits & vegetables, soup, applesauce, stuffing, instant mashed potatoes, cereal, and canned meats.

Donation bins will also be on-site for new, unwrapped toys. All ages are needed, but especially toys for 10+.

Let’s show our holiday spirit by giving back to our community and helping those less fortunate experience a wonderful holiday! Every donation to the Belton Welfare Association & Operation Santa assists area residents. You can make a difference right here!

If you wish to give a monetary gift, please contact the Welfare Association directly at 816-805-7624.
