PECULIAR – A West Peculiar Fire Protection District firefighter, 30-year-old Charles “Chuck” McCormick, was killed Sunday morning fighting a structure fire in the 22300 block of Deer Run Road, west of Peculiar.
McCormick, of Raymore, is survived by his wife and three children. West Peculiar Fire Chief Bobby Sperry spent much of Sunday afternoon with McCormick’s family, and fire investigators remained on the scene Sunday evening.
The structure, a residence, was evacuated prior to the arrival of fire crews.
Reports indicated the blaze began in the laundry room of the residence, and that McCormick fell through a floor as he made entry. Another firefighter was injured, and remained hospitalized Sunday afternoon.
My prayers go out to fire fighter McCormick’s family and his fire family in this time of grief.
